Virtualization



Defines:

  • virtualize - To run a program in virtual storage; To simulate (or make virtual) some effect or condition on a computer; To make or conform to a virtual reality
  • Manage the properties of a system by managing the global Namespaces (see Namespace, Trust Virtualization)
    • A method of partitioning one physical server computer into multiple “virtual” servers, giving each the appearance and capabilities of running on its own dedicated machine. Each virtual server functions as a full-fledged server and can be independently rebooted.
    • The ability to separate the physical layout of a network & its devices from how uses are organized into workgroups (knows a logical configuration).
    • A concept in which a pool of storage is created that contains several disk subsystems. The subsystems can be from various vendors. The pool can be split into virtual disks that are visible to the host systems that use them.
